'On This Day' Kaplan Header Helps Men’s Soccer Team Tie Program Season-Win Record
'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Oct. 11, six years ago in 2014.
AURORA, N.Y. – Marshall Kaplan headed a cross from Jesse Constantino into the back of the Lions' net in the game's 56th minute, elevating the Wells College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against Bryn Athyn College on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014. With the win, Wells moves to 8-4-1 overall on the year to tie the program's single-season record for overall victories.
With the score locked at zero through the first 45 minutes, the Express were able to capitalize only 11:38 into the second half as Kaplan's first goal of the season came at an opportune time. On the afternoon, Wells outshot Bryn Athyn by a whopping 24-to-6 margin but placed only five of the total shots on Lions keeper Ryan Weinkopff. Additionally, Wells held the decisive advantage in corner kicks by an 11-to-2 margin.
Wells goalkeeper Michael Sciotti made only one save in the game while Weinkopff allowed one goal on five total shots on net.
