Men's Volleyball Open's Season at Potsdam

Wells College men's volleyball kicked off their season on the road at SUNY Potsdam this Thursday.

Isayah Johnson scored the first point of the season for the Express with a kill from Mason Moon. After falling behind in the first set 8-3, Wells battled back to cut the deficit to only two after a few errors by the Bears.  Despite a late kill from Mason Moon and Harrison Keena, Wells dropped the first set, 25-17. Wells jumped out to a 5-2 lead to start the second set. The two teams went on to exchange points until the score reached 13-13. From there, the Bears went on a 4-0 run that was stopped by a kill from Jacob Sehn from Mason Moon. Potsdam kept the pressure on the Express however and won the second set, 25-19. After falling behind early in the third set, Wells was not going away without a fight. Kills from Harrison Keena and Mason Moon kept this set close. As the set ended, the two teams were locked at 22 apiece. Two errors from the Bears gave Wells a lead, then kills from Connor Garvey and Harrison Keena gave the Express their first set in of the season.  The Express continued to bring the energy in the fourth set jumping out to a 14-5 lead over the Bears. Potsdam battled their way back into the set taking a 20-17 lead over the Express. After a timeout by Wells, they were not able to catch up with the Bears and fell in the fourth set, 25-21.

The second match of the day for the Express was against Nichols. In the first set, Nichols pulled ahead and never looked back. The Express were not able to score more than 15 points in all three sets and struggled with their attack percentage. Confidence Burrowes and Connor Garvey each had 5 kills against Nichols. Isayah Johnson also had 3 blocks. After playing an intense match with their hosts, SUNY Potsdam, fatigue set in for Wells against Nichols and they fell in three straight sets.

Tomorrow at 12 pm they will take on Hobart at SUNY Potsdam before returning home.
