Erkson Wins NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week Honors
AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Holli Erkson (Cooperstown, N.Y.) was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her outstanding efforts for the Express this past week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Erkson becomes only the second student-athlete in team history to win a weekly award from the conference.
Erkson averaged 23 points for the Express this past week as they racked up a 2-1 record within conference play to keep their postseason hopes alive. Against Keuka on Wednesday, Erkson registered 18 points to lead the team in point scoring while also pulling down six rebounds. She also had an impressive game against Saint Elizabeth on Sunday, scoring 23 points while posting four steals in their team's win against the Eagles.
Her monster game came against Penn College on Saturday as she scored 28 points in only 26 minutes of action. Shooting 12-for-16 from the floor, Erkson poured home three shots from beyond the arc and registered seven steals and six assists in their record-setting 93-76 victory over the Wildcats. The 93 total points scored by the Express set a team record in only their fifth season as a varsity program.
On the season, Erkson ranks fourth in the conference in free throw percentage (.788) and sixth in steals per game (2.5). Her 33.2 minutes played per game places her 10th amongst league opponents. She enters Tuesday's contest against Morrisville State only seven points shy of 690 points, the amount needed to pass Kristen Ryan '14 for second place all-time in career point scoring.
Wells hosts the aforementioned Mustangs at 5 p.m. this Tuesday, Feb. 17. The team will honor and recognize its three senior student-athletes, Cassie Smythe (Eden, N.Y.), Kaitlynne Knapp (Port Byron, N.Y.) and Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapa'a, Hawaii).
