The Wells College women's basketball team wrapped up the first-semester portion of its 2016-17 season with a non-conference road game at Nazareth College on Thursday, Dec. 8. Nazareth won 88-67.
Wells has a 3-4 record through seven games on the year and Nazareth improved to 4-3.
Ashida Cooper scored 30 points to lead the Express. It is the second time this season that she has scored 30 or more points, and the fourth time in seven games that she has recorded 20 points or more. Carley Ryan and Shelby Medovich also scored in double-figures with 15 points each.
The Express defense helped cause 18 Nazareth turnovers. Wells had seven steals, with Cooper recording five steals. Cooper added four rebounds and three assists to go along with her points and steals. Medovich, Ryan, and Julia Smith had six rebounds each to lead Wells in that category.
The Express trailed 17-13 at after the first quarter and 33-22 at halftime. Nazareth extended its lead to 15 points after three and went on to the 21-point victory.
Wells made 18-of-24 free-throw attempts. Nazareth shot 52 percent from the floor, including 10-for-19 from 3-point range.
Wells returns to action after the holiday break with a return to North Eastern Athletic Conference action Jan. 7, 2017 at Morrisville State College.
