Ryan Reaches Milestone In Women's Basketball Loss
Wells College women's basketball senior Carley Ryan reached a significant career milestone as the Express lost 62-52 to Penn State Abington on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Ryan made a 3-pointer in the opening minute of the game which allowed her to reach 1,000 points scored in her Wells career.
Ryan's early 3-pointer was part of an excellent start to the game for the Express. Wells built a 12-0 lead to start the opening quarter and held Penn State Abington without a point until 3:42 remained in the opening quarter. The Express led 15-7 after the first quarter and 22-20 at halftime.
Wells held its lead heading into the third quarter, following a back-and-forth third quarter in which the teams combined for 37 points. Wells led 40-39 after three. Penn State Abington outscored Wells 23-12 in the fourth and took the victory. Abington was 9-for-14 from the field in the fourth quarter.
Ryan went on to score 13 points in the game. She is the fifth player in Wells College women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-career-points milestone and joined teammate Shelby Medovich on the distinguished list. Medovich reached the milestone last week. Both players were honored in a brief halftime ceremony as they joined Ashida Cooper '17, Holli Erkson '16, and Ashley Rozer '14 in the 1,000-point club for the Express.
Medovich led Wells with 18 points and 11 minutes in 26 minutes of action. Jordan Jacobs turned in a career-best 14 points along with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.
Wells is back in action Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Cazenovia College.
