The Wells College women's lacrosse team dominated the middle portion of the game and cruised to a 17-8 victory over Cazenovia College on Sunday, April 15 at the Wells Turf Field. Wells overcame an early deficit and scored 12 straight goals to claim the victory.
Wells is 4-2 overall and 3-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference games. Cazenovia is 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the NEAC.
Cazenovia led 5-2 with 13 minutes remaining in the first half, before Wells scored the final six goals of the first half and the first six goals of the second half. During the 12-0 run, Wells held Cazenovia scoreless for more than 30 minutes of game time.
Mackenzie Maloney scored eight goals and added two assists for Wells. Julia Smith had a career-best five goals. Renee Bartosz and Savanah Connors each had two goals and one assist.
Wells held a 15-11 advantage in draw controls. Smith had eight draw controls and Connors had four. Maloney led Wells with six ground balls and Smith had five.
Anna Bozeat made 15 saves on 23 shots.
Wells is back in action Wednesday, April 18 at Keuka for a 7 p.m. game. The next home game is Saturday, April 21 at 5 p.m. against Lancaster Bible College.
