AURORA, N.Y. – Sophomore Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) and senior Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.) each scored three goals, but a slow start doomed the Wells College women's lacrosse team as they lost a 11-10 tilt to the Mavericks of Medaille College Sunday afternoon at the South Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express even their overall record at 6-6 while falling to 4-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Mavericks improve to 5-1 overall in league play following the win.

Trailing 11-8 with 6:23 remaining in the second half, freshman Kaylie Benjamin () and Fargnoli each potted goals to cut the score to 11-10 with 2:06 remaining in regulation time. On the ensuing draw, Medaille's Katie Botsford was able to win the ball as the Mavericks drained the clock to prevent any further Wells comeback.

Medaille built a 6-1 lead through the game's first 16:09, using four Denay O'Connor strikes to build an early cushion. However, the Express scored five of the game's next six goals to carry a one goal deficit, 7-6, into the half. Medaille scored three of the game's first four goals in the second half, keeping the Express at arm's length throughout the middle of the contest.

Benjamin potted two goals cumulatively while sophomore Savannah Tucker (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Amber Jordan (Auburn, N.Y.) each chipped in a goal apiece. While Wells led the Mavericks 23-to-22 in shots, Medaille claimed the statistical edge in draw controls (12), clears (13) and ground balls (24).

The Mavericks were led by four strikes from O'Connor, while Taylor Hackford chipped in three goals of her own. Botsford added two goals of her own while Brittney Rowland and Emily Brophy each added markers.

Express goalkeeper Chelsea Dann (Flagstaff, Ariz.) made seven saves in the loss, allowing 11 goals on 18 shots. Medaille netminder Brittany Lucas improves to 8-2 overall on the year, making four saves on 14 shots.

In a pre-game ceremony, Bass and classmate Erika Bareiss (Clinton, N.Y.) were honored as the team's lone graduating senior student-athletes. Their contributions to the program across the prior four years were recognized and celebrated by the team and the crowd in attendance.
