EXPRESS DROP REGULAR SEASON FINALE TO CAZENOVIA
Cazenovia, N.Y.– The Wells College women's lacrosse team fell 17-16 to Cazenovia College (7-7, 5-2 NEAC) in the regular season North Eastern Athletic Conference finale for both teams Monday afternoon in Cazenovia, N.Y. Emily Lotkowictz (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) continued her torrid scoring streak tallying 11 points (7g, 4a), while Sarah Allen (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North) added seven points (5g, 2a) to lead Wells. Cassandra Gazele led the Wildcats with eight points (4g, 4a), while Courtney Caldwell chipped in with four goals.
Liz Cook earned the win in net for the Wildcats with seven saves, while Elizabeth Barclay (Laporte, Pa./Lincoln Academy) finished with eight saves in the loss.
The Wildcats held a slight advantage in shots 34-31, while the Express held the edge in ground balls 26-25. Cazenovia controlled the draw 22-12.
Cazenovia opened the second half with four straight goals to take an 11-7 lead. Wells answered, scoring six straight goals in the middle of the half to take a 15-12 lead with 8:06 to play. The Wildcats responded with a 5-0 run that gave Cazenovia a 17-15 lead with less than two minutes remaining. Allen trimmed the lead to one, 17-16, with 33 seconds to go but the Express were unable to find the equalizer as the Wildcats held on for the victory.
Despite the loss, the Express wrapped up the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming NEAC Women's Lacrosse tournament with a record of 7-7 (6-1 NEAC). The tournament is set to be held at Wells College on April 24 and 25.
Full tournament seeding and game times will be released by the NEAC office later in the week.
