ALFRED TOO MUCH FOR WOMEN'S LAX
Aurora, NY- The Alfred University women's lacrosse team rolled over the Express 12-5 on Wednesday afternoon in Aurora. The undefeated Saxons improve to 2-0 on the season while the Express lost their second straight falling to 1-3 on the season.
Emily Lotkowictz (Skaneateles, NY) finished with four goals and eight groundballs while Charlotte Fielding (Queensbury, NY) had a goal and an assist to lead the Express. Liz Barclay (Laporte, PA) finished with 10 saves, six in the first half, in the loss.
Abbey Schaffnit (Bemus Point, NY) recorded a hat trick and Emily Tobin (Penfield, NY) finished with five points (2 goals, 3 assist) on the afternoon to lead the Saxons.
Alfred held the advantage in shots (28-10) and face-offs (9-8) while each team finished with 20 groundballs.
Lotkowictz would put the Express on the board early, driving to the net and scoring an unassisted goal less than a minute into the game, giving Wells the 1-0 lead. Alfred responded shortly after, as Bailey Umphries (Heuvelton, NY) would tie the game at 1-1 just two minutes into the game. After goals by Fielding and Lotkowictz would give the Express a 3-2 lead, the Saxons would go on to score five unanswered goals and take a commanding 7-3 lead at the half.
The Saxons came out firing in the second half, scoring three goals in the first ten minutes giving Alfred a 10-3 lead. Although, Lotkowictz would find the net twice more it would prove to be too little too late as the Saxons would cruise to the 12-5 victory.
The Express will look to bounce back at home against Oswego State on Saturday, March 28, at 12:00 pm in Aurora.
