Women's Lacrosse: May 3, 2017
Three members of the Wells College women's lacrosse team earned all-conference honors as the North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its 2017 annual awards on Wednesday, May 3. The conference honors were voted on by league coaches, and 36 deserving student-athletes were honored with first, second or third team recognition among 10 member institutions.
Mackenzie Maloney and Anna Bozeat were second team selections and Miranda Mingen was picked for the third Team.
Maloney, a sophomore midfielder from Huntington Station, N.Y., led Wells in goals, assists, and points. She ranked second in the NEAC with 62 goals, tied for the team lead with 16 assists and her 78 total points ranked fifth in the conference. It is her second all-conference award. She was a first team pick in 2016 and the 2016 NEAC Rookie of the Year. Maloney was also selected as the team's most valuable player for the 2017 season.
Bozeat, a freshman goalkeeper from Memphis, N.Y., was named to the 2017 NEAC Second Team. She led the conference with 152 saves on the season and was fifth in save percentage at 43.8. It is her first career all-conference honor. Bozeat was also selected as the team's rookie of the year.
Mingen, a freshman defender from Houston, Texas, earned a place on the 2017 NEAC Third Team. She had 19 caused turnovers, which ranked second on the team to Maloney, and had 28 ground balls. She scored two goals and had one assist on the year. It is her first-ever all-conference award.
Men's Lacrosse: May 3, 2017
The Wells College men's lacrosse team had three players recognized with all-conference honors as the North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its annual awards for the 2017 season on Wednesday, May 3. The conference honors were voted on by league coaches, and 39 deserving student-athletes were honored by position with first, second or third team recognition among nine member institutions.
Alex Milliken earned a place on the 2017 First Team and Tanner Mingen and Cash Lawson were selected to the all-conference third team.
Milliken was voted onto the 2017 All-NEAC First Team for the first time in his career. The senior attackman from Hilton, N.Y., has earned all-conference recognition all four seasons for the Express. He was on the third team as a freshman in 2014 and on the second team in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. It is the second year in a row that Wells has had a first team all-conference player, and Milliken is the third player in program history to earn a place on the first team. Milliken is the all-time leading scorer at Wells with 143 goals, 59 assists for 202 points. In 2017, he ranked second in the NEAC with 44 goals and eighth in the conference with 52 points.
Tanner Mingen was voted to the 2017 All-NEAC Third Team at short-stick midfield. In 12 games, he ranked third on the team in scoring with 21 goals and 10 assists for 31 points. Mingen's 10 assists led Wells in that category. He had 17 caused turnovers, which ranked 11th in the conference. Mingen had 85 ground balls, which ranked second on the team. The junior from Houston, Texas picked up his first career all-conference award.
Sophomore defender Cash Lawson earned All-NEAC honors for the first time in his career. He was a starter on defense in all 12 games with eight caused turnovers and 30 ground balls. Lawson picked up his first career point with an assist against SUNY Canton.
The Wells College men's lacrosse team tied its best overall win total in 10 years of competition as a varsity program with four wins, and the three conference wins established a program-best in that category. Wells was 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the NEAC.
