Women's Soccer Sweeps Weekly NEAC Honors
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – For only the second time in program history, Wells College captured both offensive and defensive North Eastern Athletic Conference weekly awards for the sport of women's soccer. Freshman Jordan Lidell (Pitcher, N.Y.) was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week while classmate Carley Ryan (Middleburgh, N.Y.) was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Both student-athletes helped the Express to a 2-1 record in conference play this past week as Wells posted a 9-4 victory over Morrisville State before collecting a 5-1 win against SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday. In its last three games, Wells has scored 14 goals and the team boasts five victories in its last seven conference matches.
Lidell scored a team-leading four goals and two assists for 10 points (4-2=10) in the three games last week. Coming off the bench against Morrisville State, Lidell assisted sophomore Yanna Ososkalo's (Lyme, N.Y.) team-leading ninth goal of the season before securing her first collegiate hat trick with a strike in the game's 62nd minute.
Against SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday, Lidell put Wells on the board only 2:49 into regulation time before going on to assist the game-winning goal only 1:18 into the second half. In 17 games as a freshman, Lidell has scored five goals and four assists for 14 points (5-4=14) to rank fourth on the team in point scoring.
Ryan picks up her second weekly award of the season after earning Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 5. She provided strong play on both sides of the field for the Express, leading a defensive backfield that held SUNY Cobleskill to just two shots on goal in her team's win on Sunday. In that contest, she also contributed a goal and an assist to help Wells defeat the Fighting Tigers.
On Wednesday, Ryan opened the second half against Morrisville State with a goal that put her team ahead by a comfortable 7-2 margin. On the season, Ryan has scored three goals and two assists for eight points (3-2=8).
Wells returns to action Sunday, Oct. 25 as they travel to the campus of Penn St.-Abington for a 2 p.m. conference tilt against the Nittany Lions.
