Women's Soccer Sprints Past Gallaudet, 5-0

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's soccer team fired 52 shots against the visiting Bison from Gallaudet University, earning a 5-0 victory at the South Athletic Field on Saturday. The Express moves to 2-9 overall and to 1-3 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference while the Bison drop to 2-9 on the year and to 1-4 against conference opponents.

Wells opened the scoring at 23:07 as sophomore Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) fired home a loose ball in the goalmouth to propel her team to the early advantage. She added her second goal of the game just over five minutes later, forcing home a cross from senior Arianna Harmon (East Syracuse, N.Y.) to lift her team to a 2-0 lead entering halftime.

Sophomore Madison Maloney (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season at 61:58 after burying a quick pass from Ososkalo to create a three-goal lead for the Express. Freshman Mackenzie Maloney (Huntington Station, N.Y.) potted her second goal of the season in the 74th minute, receiving a long-distance service and finishing on the back post. Junior Amber Welsh (Cortland, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Wells, bouncing a pass from classmate Ciara Tallman (Cortland, N.Y.) off the goalkeeper's hands.

The 52 shots by Wells is the most by any Express team in a single match since at least the 2008 season. Holding a distinct 35-to-1 advantage in shots through the final 45 minutes of play, Wells was the beneficiary of 15 corner kicks and allowed zero to Gallaudet.

Wells freshman Kayleigh Hurley (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) made her first collegiate appearance in goal, making a save on the lone shot she faced. Jennifer Livengood made 12 saves on 17 shots faced for Gallaudet – her defense kept two shots out of the goal with timely saves.

The Express welcome Wilson College to campus on Sunday, Oct. 4 as they will play at 2:15 p.m. on the South Athletic Field.
