HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Wells College women's soccer team posted a 3-2 road loss to the host Hawks of Hilbert College on Wednesday. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-8 overall on the year while Hilbert moves to 4-3 on the season.
Trailing by a 2-0 margin in the 42nd minute, sophomore Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) collected a long ball from junior Amber Welsh (Cortland, N.Y.) and beat the Hilbert goalkeeper to cut into the deficit. Despite a Hilbert goal in the 49th minute, freshman Mackenzie Maloney (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal at 63:16 off a pass from classmate Carley Ryan (Middleburg, N.Y.) to shrink the score to 3-2.
Courtney Vaccaro scored the first goal of the game for Hilbert at 7:37 off an assist from Jennifer Colvin, who later added her first goal of the year at 35:52 to capture a 2-0 lead. Vaccaro's second goal of the game was set up from Jackie Morgan at 49:22.
Wells backstop Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) made six saves on nine total shots faced. Jenna Castricone turned aside 9-of-11 shots for Hilbert in the complete game win.
The Express return to action Saturday, Sept. 26 as they face-off against Keuka on the road at 3 p.m.
