HAMBURG, Pa. – Natalie Woods (Lansdale, Pa./ Lansdale Catholic) scored with 5:25 remaining in regulation to propel Penn. St. Berks (1-2-1, 1-0-1 NEAC) to the 1-0 victory over the Wells College women's soccer team (2-4, 0-2 NEAC) in North Eastern Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon in Hamburg, Pa. Rachel Mattraw (Chaumont, N.Y./Lyme Central) finished with 11 saves in the losing effort while Savannah Crammer (Wrightsville, Pa / Eastern York) finished with five saves to earn the victory for Berks.
The two teams played even through the first half with each team firing four shots on goal.
Berks controlled much of the second half out shooting the Express 7-1 and the pressure would pay off late. Woods took a pass from Madi Litwin (Aston, Pa./ Sun Valley) and beat Mattraw to the right corner for the go ahead and eventual game winning goal with five minutes to play. The Nittany Lions held the Express without a shot the rest of the way to hold on for their first conference victory.
The Express return to action on Tuesday against non-conference opponent Keystone College at 5 p.m. in Aurora, N.Y.
