The Wells College field hockey team may have been outscored by a single goal in the second half of its matchup against visiting Hartwick College, but the Express put on most of the pressure and ended up outshooting the Hawks 5-2 in the final two quarters.
Hartwick came out of the gate flying with four goals in each of the first two quarters and with its lone second-half goal bested Wells by a 9-0 score on Oct. 9 to end the Express' three-game home stand.
Penalty corners also favored Hartwick by 6-3. Sabrina Burns made four saves and got some help from Cassandra Ninbi-Yobo and Danielle Radivoy, who each recorded one defensive save.
Offensively, the second-half shooting barrage was led by Sadie Sheffler with a pair of shots. Caitlin Lawrence, Chloe Marcus and Whitney Coleman all added single shots.
The field hockey team next begins a four-game road trip beginning with a pair of road games this weekend. The first occurs on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Sweet Brian with a 12 p.m. start and is followed by a Sunday, Oct. 13 contest against Centenary (NJ) at 1 p.m.
