WOMEN'S SOCCER EARNS TIE AGAINST ALFRED

Aurora, NY – 110-minutes of soccer on the rain soaked pitch at Wells College would not be enough to settle the score between the Alfred Saxons and the Wells Express women's soccer teams as they played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon in Aurora. Paige Stone scored the lone goal for the Express (4-9-1) while goalie Savannah Duh led the defense with 23 saves in net. Tracy McGinnity scored the only goal for the Saxons who moved to 4-8-3 with the tie.

Scoreless through the first 69-minutes of play, Julie Vibbard would drop a pass over the top of the Saxon defense to Stone who tipped the ball over charging goalie Shanna Ewoldt, finishing the play with a tough angled, open-net goal for a 1-0 lead.

But with four minutes remaining in the game and the Express clinging to a one goal lead, the Saxons would draw a foul setting up a direct kick from 20-yards out. On the ensuing kick Duh would slip and fall at mouth of the goal as McGinnity's shot sailed into the goal tying the game at 1-1 and sending the game into overtime.

Despite a combined eight shots on goal in the two overtime periods neither team was able to find the back of the net as game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Express will next travel to the Riverside Sports Complex in Scranton, PA on Sunday, October 25th to take on NEAC opponent Wilson College at 2:00 pm.
