MEN’S SOCCER ROLlS OVER HAWKS IN SEASON OPENER

(Aurora, N.Y.)Junior Delroy Roberts (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) scored two goals and senior Blasdimil Gomez (New York/Buxton) added a late insurance goal as the Wells College Express men's soccer team (1-0) shutout the visiting Hilbert College Hawks (0-1) 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Aurora, N.Y. Freshmen C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa./Western Wayne) recorded his first collegiate win and shutout in net tallying five saves on the day. Kamil Cislak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) took the loss in net for the Hawks finishing with ten saves.  

The Express were stingy on defense holding the Hawks to five shots on net, while their offense peppered the Hawks goal with 26 shots. The Express also held the advantage in corners 6-2.  

Roberts got the scoring started for the Express tipping a pass from Patrick Sodums (Candor, N.Y./Spencer Van Etten) past Cislak for a 1-0 lead 13:40 into the first half. Roberts netted his second goal of the game with four minutes remaining in the first half redirecting a cross from sophomore Luke Miller (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) for a 2-0 lead.  

The Express continued to pressure the Hawks in the second half firing off 14 shots, including a blistering shot from freshmen Patrick O'Callaghan that rang off the cross-bar ten minutes into the second half. Gomez put the final touches on a dominating game by the Express finding the back of the net on a pass from Justin Rigney (New York/Beacon) giving the Express a 3-0 lead with less than four minutes to play.  

The Express return to action on Saturday, September 4 against Medaille College at 5:30 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
