This weekend brought another United East Conference series for the Wells Express baseball team.
Earlier in the week, the Express defended their home turf against the visiting Keuka College Wolves and won 5-0. This weekend they looked to continue that success when Penn State Abington came to town.
Zach Cronk started the first game for the Express and went 5 innings giving up 8 runs on 7 hits. It didn't take long for Abington to grab a lead in this one after the first inning they were up 2-0 and then added 5 more runs in the top of the third. The Express were able to push across runs in the 4th inning and the 6th inning thanks to RBIs from Joe Horne. Wells College would get two more runs in the 8th from a balk and a single off the bat of John Valinoti. Penn State Abington would take the first game by a score of 16-4.
The second game was started by Luke Eitner. The Lions were ready for whatever the Express through at them and scored 7 runs on 5 hits in the first two innings of play. For the Express, Max Odum lead off the game with a home run! His first of the season! The next time the Express would be able to score was in the 6th inning when Aaron Izquierdo tripled off the wall in left field and cleared the bases grabbing himself 2 RBIs in the process. The Lions, however, would win the second game as well 18-3.
Jack Field started the third game for Wells College but unfortunately, Penn State Abington was able to push across 7 runs in the top of the first inning. The Express found themselves in a hole once again. In the third inning, Aaron Izquierdo would double to left field with the bases loaded and send home the first 3 runs of the game for Wells College. Wells Would score one more run in the 7th off the bat of Zack Odum who hit home Max Odum after Max stole 2nd and third base. The Lions of Penn State Abington would sweep the Express this weekend with the final score being 16-4.
